A Busy Week at Groobarbs!

GB Burns Hi Res 34

Wow - I am still recovering from an awesome Burns Night at Groobarbs this weekend. The piper, the food, whisky, atmosphere, ceilidh band & poems were awesome. Some new dance moves have been added to my repertoire! Plus, those of you who have eaten in the Field Kitchen will be pleased to hear we have new chairs in the restaurant!

The next event is this Thursday with our first ever Women’s Nutrition event. A supper club for the ladies with food and discussion all based around women’s health. This is a relaxed take on what’s easy, fun and enjoyable to do and eat. It starts at 7pm this Thursday and is hosted by nutritional therapist Rosie Tadman. Groobarbs co-owner Rebecca will also be there. There are a few spots left so if you would like to attend, you can book on our website.

On the farm I am waiting for the soil to dry up for planting to commence. Last night it chucked it down, so that will mean another week to wait, which is a shame as all the wind over the last few days helped dry things up.

We have also have a new roots harvester on the way. It’s being made in Yorkshire as we speak. It’s a gentle harvester, bespoke for us, and will make picking parsnips, carrots, potatoes, onions and beetroot a lot easier. Well, save our backs more to the point!

I do have some rants I need to get off my chest, but I will save them for some more newsletters. One is to do with eggs and how supermarkets are tricking us. Another is my take on what farmers can do to beat the fuss that is kicking off at the moment.

Anyway let’s hope we have a dry spell on the way to get some planting done. A hint of spring was in the air this Saturday just gone and it’s getting a bit lighter in the afternoon. So there is always hope :)
